Course Description

A Dental Assistant assists with oral surgery, preparing tools and sterilizing equipment, and often helps record observations and results of the surgery. Dental assistants are in extremely high demand, and their profession is growing at a rate of 18% per year. The 2016 median income for a dental assistant was $35,000 per year.

What’s in this program? This program will give you standards to follow and a familiarity with the tools and procedures in a dental office. This Dental Assistant program covers the history of dentistry, legal aspects of dentistry, oral anatomy, dental operatory, and dental equipment. In this program, you will be introduced to tooth structure including primary and permanent teeth.
Included Certifications! Included in the program tuition is the Dental Assisting National Board’s (DANB) Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Certification exam and Infection Control Exam (ICE) Certification exam. In many states the DANB-RHS Certification is required to work in dental radiography.

Summary: With just 6 months of study, you can be ready for a job as a dental assistant. The demand for dental assistants is growing faster than most other professions.

o Dental Anatomy and Physiology
o Tooth charting, tooth surfaces, and classifications of restorations on the tooth
o Parts of the jaw and areas of the mouth
o Oral health and preventions of dental diseases
o Dental radiology
o Dental equipment and accessories
o Single crown restoration, bridge, implant, partial denture, and full denture
o Dental cements and impression materials
o Dental administration and communication skills
o Assisting in comprehensive dental care

Dental assistants balance a variety of high priority responsibilities that benefit the patient, the dentist, other members of the team and the practice itself. This program is ideal for individuals with no previous dental experience as well as individuals working in the dental field who wish to further their knowledge, skills, and potentially advance their career. This program is also targeted at individuals working in the dental field that are looking to advance their career by obtaining their RHS and ICE certification.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this program students will be prepared to sit for the included certification exams. The DANB’s RHS exam is a component exam of both the NELDA and CDA certifications. The DANB’s ICE exam is a component exam of NELDA, CDA and COA certifications. There are no eligibility requirements for taking the RHS or ICE exams, so you can take them at any time.

This program is supported by an expert educational mentor, Patrice Arevalo. Patrice has a degree in medical assisting from The Career College of Northern Nevada as well as a degree in dental assisting from the Community College of the Air Force. She is available to provide guidance and motivation for learners throughout the duration of this program. As an expert mentor, she will provide answers to learner questions, monitor learner's program progression, and review lesson and program quiz/test results.
