Widgets are the tools that bind the Social Web. Widgets connect social media sites with blogs and websites; add interactivity and advanced features to websites; and help share content across the Internet. And widgets are the first step toward a solid integration plan for your entire social media presence.
This course explains what widgets are, how they are used, and provides an overview of the different types of widgets, such as social networking, RSS feed, and sharing widgets. The course demonstrates how to implement widgets, plugins, applications, and APIs from popular platforms like WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and LinkedIn.
Upon satisfactorily completing the Online Instructor Supported Social Media Widgets Certificate program, students should be able to:
Use social media widgets to improve an online presence
Identify the difference between Widgets, Plugins, Applications, and APIs
Implement WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn widgets
Install and customize WordPress and Facebook plugins
Identify the different types of widgets and how they are used

Deltina Hay is the author of three books on social media, the mobile web, and search optimization. She developed the graduate, social media certificate program for Drury University; and her first book, The Social Media Survival Guide, is used as a text in colleges and universities, worldwide.
Deltina has been programming or developing for the Web for over 30 years. Her graduate education includes computer science, applied mathematics, numerical analysis, nonlinear dynamics, and psychology. Deltina presently serves as the Board Chair of the Independent Book Publishers Association.
